Fourth season of the Total Drama series.
List of Total Drama episodes |
Total Drama: Revenge of the Island is the fourth season of the Total Drama franchise. The series' extension was commissioned by Teletoon from the producers, Fresh T.V. Inc. This season will take place back at Camp Wawanakwa (the original setting of the first season) but this time with an entirely new cast. However, since the island has been forgotten and left alone for the past two seasons, the island has been used as a toxic nuclear waste dump, transforming it into the perfect location for the most dramatic and brutal challenges yet. There will be thirteen new competitors: Anne Maria, B, Brick, Cameron, Dakota, Dawn, Jo, Lightning, Mike, Sam, Staci, Scott and Zoey.[2] This new season will have new rivals, new relationships and the biggest drama yet, but will only be half the length of a regular season, with only 13 episodes.[1] The purpose for this season is not just to start all over again, but to introduce the new cast to what the older contestants have gone through before. Total Drama: Revenge of the Island will air Thursday nights in Canada starting January 5, 2012, at 7:00 p.m. EST on Teletoon,[3][4][5] while the U.S. will air it later on Cartoon Network.

Like Total Drama Island, this season is a fictional reality show that follows the competition of thirteen new teens at Camp Wawanakwa, a summer camp on a fictional island located in an unspecified area in Muskoka, Ontario, except now, the island is radioactive.[2] The campers participate in competitions to avoid being voted off the island by their fellow teammates. At the end of the season, the winning contestant will win one million dollars. The competition is hosted by Chris McLean (Christian Potenza), who is assisted by the camp's chef, Chef Hatchet (Clé Bennett). At the beginning of the season, the thirteen campers are placed onto two teams, the Mutant Maggots and the Toxic Rats. In each episode, the teams participate in a challenge, in which one or more campers can win invincibility for their team. The losing team is called to the elimination ceremony at night, where they vote one of their own members off the island. At the ceremony, Chris declares which contestants are safe by calling their name and giving them a marshmallow, while the one whose name is not called is eliminated from the game and given a radioactive marshmallow. The eliminated camper is then taken to the Dock of Shame and catapulted to the Playa de Losers. About halfway through the season, the teams are disbanded, after which the challenges continue; the winner of each challenge then only receives invincibility for him or herself, whereupon a camper without invincibility is voted off the island. This process of elimination is continued on until two players remain on the island, where then they are subject to a final contest. At the end of the season one camper is crowned winner of the contest and is given the million dollars.
Unlike previous seasons, Total Drama: Revenge of the Island features a new set of contestants: Anne Maria, B, Brick, Cameron, Dakota, Dawn, Jo, Lightning, Mike, Sam, Staci, Scott and Zoey.[2] Anne Maria is a reject from the MTV series, Jersey Shore. She is involved in a love triangle with Mike and Zoey. B is really smart and strong, but is also very shy. Brick is a military cadet who is always interested in serving the army. Cameron is an intelligent geek who is considered a "wide-eyed bubble boy". Dawn is a hippie environmentalist. She is often shy and is frequently seen meditating. Dakota is a girl who will do anything to get famous. Even though she calls "regular people" ugly, she has a big heart. Jo is very strong and athletic, but also mean like Eva. Lightning is also athletic, but he is very nice and an over-achiever. Mike has multiple personality disorder. Regardless, he still seems to have a relationship with Zoey, and even Anne Maria. Sam is a video game expert and addict. Scott is very devious. He is one of the main antagonists of the show. Staci is a liar. Zoey is a nice red-head who tries to be friends with everyone. She has a relationship with Mike.[6] All of the new contestants have their own audition tapes for the new season. As of now, their audition tapes have only been released online.[7]
There weren't originally thirteen characters when the season started production, there were only twelve, and some of them had names and even designs that were different to the final ones. The thirteenth character is B, as he was not in the original twelve character lineup.[5]
Although the original contestants did not compete in this season, nine of them still had cameo appearances throughout the season.[8] These people were Bridgette, Duncan, Ezekiel, Gwen, Harold, Heather, Izzy, Lindsay and Owen which each of them appeared for a short period of time on each episode. However, in the beginning of the season, all of the original contestants were seen together on a yacht, revealing their status after Total Drama World Tour. They were all last seen (except for the nine who cameo) leaving on the yacht right before the new contestants were first introduced. The sixteen other original contestants who no longer appeared after the first episode were Alejandro, Beth, Blaineley, Cody, Courtney, DJ, Eva, Geoff, Justin, Katie, LeShawna, Noah, Sadie, Sierra, Trent and Tyler.
Total Drama: Revenge of the Island was developed and produced by Fresh T.V. Inc. Since all the characters in this season are completely new, the studio had to hire several new voice actors to come and voice the new characters. However, Brian Froud, the voice actor of Harold is returning to voice Sam, one of the new characters.[9] This season will be directed by two new directors, Keith Oliver and Chad Hicks. However, Mark Thornton and Todd Kauffman will still have some sort of role in the making of this season. There were some things that did not make the final cut like some backgrounds, scenes, a flying squirrel concept and an episode about Dakota hosting the show when she locks Chef and Chris in a closet.[5]
On March 25, 2011 all the shapes of all the 13 contestants were revealed in this video. On March 27, 2011 all the names and personalities of the contestants were revealed in a press release.[2] On April 5, 2011, Christian Potenza posted a YouTube video of him recording the first line of Total Drama: Revenge of the Island. The quote was, "Camp Wawanakwa! Once a paradise on earth, now a biohazardous dump! The perfect setting to drop a gang of teen-freaks and let 'em run wild! We're going back to the island, baby! A whole new set of campers. Each one more abnormal than the last. A whole new set of dangerous challenges! Insane, deranged, disgusting! These are just a few words that describe this season's high level of drama and another million dollar prize! Stay tuned for a brand new vengeful season of Total! Drama! Revenge of the Island!"[10] This line is used for the promotional trailer that Teletoon showed at the end of the Total Drama World Tour finale, which was first released on April 24, 2011 (Easter Sunday). On June 1, 2011 Christian Potenza released on his Facebook the new season logo along with more final designs of the characters. On June 3, 2011 there were snapshots of radioactive Camp Wawanakwa. On August 25, 2011 the new Total Drama: Revenge of the Island flipbook was released. On August 28, 2011, the first official cast image was released to the public via Facebook. On September 24, 2011, the third official trailer was released which contained new scenes and confirmed the team assignments.[11] On September 27, 2011, Christian Potenza announced that Total Drama: Revenge of the Island was first supposed to air in the summer of 2011, but was then pushed back to September 2011, and now it has been delayed into 2012.[12] Also, the personality of Mike was explained more as well as the team name for the Radioactive Rats being scrapped. On October 13, 2011, Christian Potenza revealed some stuff about the intro of the season and said that promos will be out soon.[13] On November 28, 2011 the official Canadian airdate for the season was announced for January 5, 2012.[4] On December 14, 2011 an animated interview with Chris McLean and a fan was released and revealed that the new team name is now "Toxic Rats".[14] On December 18, 2011, the official Canadian TDROTI website was launched that includes interactive menus and biographies of all the new contestants, as well as videos and sesaon descriptions. On December 21, 2011, France began to air the season's episodes, two weeks before Canada.[15] On Christmas 2011, all of the auditions of the 13 new characters were released on Teletoon's official Total Drama site.[16]

1 | "Bigger! Badder! Brutal-er![17]" | January 5, 2012[4] | 401 |
The episode begins with all the original contestants on a yacht floating by the island for the last time, where the thirteen new contestants are then introduced to the island and are given the first challenge: to compete in a race that determines which campers are on which teams, with 7 contestants ending up on the Toxic Rats and 6 contestants on the Mutant Maggots. From there, they must cut down a totem pole that is hanging from a tree, with a timed bomb strapped to it, and slide it down a hill to place it on a tree stump between the cabins. Even though the Rats successfully complete the challenge, the Maggots still win since they destroyed the "good" cabin which made Chris happy since the campers now get to sleep in an ugly cabin. The Rats are taken to the first elimination campfire ceremony, and Staci is voted off by the Rats due to her excessive lying. Owen makes a cameo in this episode.
2 | "Truth or Mutant Shark[18]" | January 12, 2012 | 402 |
The second episode of the season. The remaining twelve contestants have another challenge that is where one of them must hold their own team mascot. They then have a "Truth or Dare" type of challenge where all of the contestants must either answer a question (the truth) or do a separate challenge (the dare). At the end the Rats lose for the second time in a row and Dakota is voted off (Note that she returns again in the next episode as an intern).
3 | "A Glossy Show[19]" | January 19, 2012 | 403 |
The contestants must first climb up a mountain to the top while avoiding the stuff that Chef throws at them. The Radioactive Rats manages to get to the top first by slingshotting themselves on a sofa to the top. The second challenge is a "Capture the Flag" type of challenge where each of the teams own an ice castle, and must destroy each others castles (either by melting or by snowballs) in order to capture the other team's flag. One of Mike's personalities that is like a hero/Tarzan type manages to capture their flag and win the challenge. Ann Maria starts to like this personality from Mike. In the elimination ceremony, Scott sets up "Silent" B in order for everyone to vote him off succeeding in the process. Dakota then returns after her father complained that she was unfairly voted out. She now becomes an intern on the show and does not compete for the million dollar prize. B is then voted off.
4 | "Journey to the End of Fear[20]" | January 26, 2012 | 404 |
This episode's challenge is about facing their fear. All of the contestants are taken to the forest and encounter mutated animals and a giant pink spider that eventually attacks and captures all of the contestants except Mike and Ann Maria. Due to Mike's severe disorder, one of his personalities attracts Ann Maria and causes her and Mike to get together, without Mike remembering about Zoey. At the end when they are going to fight the giant spider, Zoey sees Mike and Ann Maria kissing and starts to get jealous (This is where the love triangle begins). As for everyone being captured by the giant spider, thanks to Cameron and Mike's hero personality, both of them rescue everyone from the spider and save the day. At the end when Cameron defeats the spider, it is revealed that the spider was Izzy all along in the spider costume. During the elimination ceremony, Brick offers to vote himself off but in the end Dakota is fired by Chris due to her terrible work as an intern, even though she returns in the next episode with Bridgette.
5 | "Traitor In Sight[21]" | February 2, 2012 | 405 |
The characters now go on a scuba diving challenge to release water skis that are underwater tied to the ocean floor. Once Jo and Brick scuba dive and release the skis, they now have to use them on a water ski racing challenge to ring the bells on top of water mines. Dakota is back again as an intern helping out along with Bridgette, while Scott and Jo switch teams. Throughout the episode, Zoey is now heartbroken since Mike is now spending more of his relationship with Ann Maria. In the end, Lightning and Cameron crash onto one of the water mines and Cameron gets severely injured. After tactical thinking, Scott sabotages Dawn in order for everyone to vote her out of the game, in which later he succeeds.
6 | "Keeping Scratched Required[22]" | February 9, 2012 | 406 |
The Toxic Rats are now a male team now that Dawn was eliminated. Zoey is upset with Mike because of Anne Maria. The first challenge is to go into the forest filled with mutated animals, and capture an animal, dress it up, and perform it on a fashion runway. Chris, Chef and Lindsay are the judges to the fashion show. The Mutant Maggots captures and shows a mutated maggot, while the Toxic Rats shows Sasquatchanakwa. Then suddenly Sasquatchanakwa captures Lindsay and takes her to Boney Island. Now the contestants go to Boney Island to rescue Lindsay from Sasquatchanakwa. Sam attempts to save Lindsay by playing a "real" version of the original Donkey Kong (Sam being Mario and Sasquatchanakwa being Donkey Kong) and right as soon as Sam almost gets to Lindsay, he then fails. Then Jo goes up and punches Sasquatchanakwa and saves Lindsay. Throughout the episode, Scott, Brick and Lightning are very close, and Sam feels he is the next to be voted off, later being right. In the elimination ceremony after Sam is eliminated, Scott and Jo switch teams. Right before Sam is catapulted, Dakota gives him her phone number but after the catapult launches Sam drops the paper with the number.
7 | "TBA" | February 16, 2012 | 407 |
The remaining eight contestants now compete in a challenge until they see Ezekiel who is now very rich since he stole the money in Total Drama World Tour. Throughout the episode, Ezekiel finds Anne Maria attractive and starts to give her presents. At the end, Brick is eliminated since the Toxic Rats lost the challenge again. In the elimination ceremony, Ezekiel gives Anne Maria a diamond that causes her to quit the show since she thinks that she no longer needs to compete since she has money now. So both Brick and Anne Maria head for the catapult and before Anne Maria gets catapulted with her diamond, Brick tells her that the diamond is fake, but it was too late since Anne Maria was then catapulted. Brick was also catapulted after, but now since Anne Maria was not supposed to go, the season was a girl short, so Chris decided to put Dakota back in the game to compete.
8 | "TBA" | February 23, 2012 | 408 |
The final seven: Cameron, Mike, Zoey, Lightning, Scott, Jo and Dakota, all woke up on a raft and then Chris comes and tells them that their first challenge is to come back to the island since they are lost at sea, but they also have to find Sam and Gwen who are buried somewhere on the camp. Dakota starts to cry when she loses her hair, possibly caused by an effect from all those radioactive experiments that Chris tried on her. Zoey was really sad for Dakota so they became best friends. Suddendly Dakota started to grow really tall and her head started to turn green! The contestants were really surprised about Dakota's effects and Cameron told everyone that Dakota was going to become a radioactive monster! Then later on the Toxic Rats lost their raft and were attacked by a mutant beast. The Mutant Maggots used Dakota on the Toxic Rats who was known by the Toxic Rats as a mutant beast with green hair and incredible strength which caused the Mutant Maggots to win the first challenge. Then Dakota argued with Chris who said to Dakota that Sam was hidden somewhere so she became more angry and started to become orange. Then the Mutant Maggots lose and Dakota and Sam kiss for the first time. Sam said to her that she was much more beautiful as a monster rather than before and that he loves her. Scott tries to convince Zoey to vote off Mike. Mike tells his secret to Cameron (personality problems) and they decided to vote off Scott, because he was evil. At the elimination ceremony when Chris read the votes, Scott was eliminated. But then Chris found the immunity totem on Scott so the person that was eliminated was Dakota. Zoey voted her off because she was afraid of her strength, because of one time when Dakota tried to cuddle Zoey but Dakota didn't control her strength and struggled Zoey instead. Dakota become eliminated again and she got ejected with Sam! The final 6 are now Scott, Cameron, Mike, Zoey, Jo, and Lightning.
9 | "Bombs & Graffiti[23]" | March 1, 2012 | 409 |
The teams are now merged and Duncan makes a cameo in the beginning of the episode. The challenge is that the six remaining contestants must spray graffiti on several landmarks, including a mountain of Chris' head. First, they must go to Chef's kitchen and find the keys for different go-karts. Once they get the keys, they go to the chicken pen where the go-karts are located, but to get their go-karts, first they must pass through an army of electromagnetic radioactive bunnies. Once they retrieve their go-kart, they are then each given a white iPad 2, that shows a GPS map of all the locations they must spray graffiti on. The first to spray graffiti on all the landmarks wins immunity and decides who gets eliminated next. Throughout the episode, Scott manipulates and takes advantage of Mike, who later makes Scott win the challenge. But then Duncan comes and blows up Chris' mountain. In the end, Mike defeats all of his different personalities and finally forgives Zoey for what he has done with Anne Maria. Mike and Zoey finally get back together, but before you know it, since Scott won the challenge, he got to choose who gets eliminated, and Scott chose Mike, even though Mike was the one who helped Scott win the challenge. Mike is now eliminated and was separated from Zoey for the next three episodes until Zoey's elimination. The final 5 are now Scott, Jo, Lightning, Cameron and Zoey.
10 | "The Way of Airs[24]" | March 8, 2012 | 410 |
The remaining five contestants now have to fly through rings of fire by using their chosen flying object, but first they must go to the waste dump to find the pieces and build their flying object. Jo has to build a flying balloon, Lightning must build a helicopter, Zoey a plane, Cameron a rocket ship and Scott gets to build a flying swam. To test the rings of fire if they are safe to fly through, Chris uses Heather as a test dummy to see if she survives the flight. Heather uses a jet pack and she does survive. While the contestants are finding and building their flying objects, Zoey is mad that Scott eliminated her boyfriend so Zoey uses Scott's parts to build her plane, causing Scott to get nothing, just a pair of wings he got from birds. At the challenge, the five are ready to fly their objects through the rings of fire, but then Heather suddenly steals the million dollar case from Chris and steals the blimp. The challenge is now to chase the blimp and capture Heather and take back the money. Everyone is now chasing the blimp and during flight Zoey gets to fly on radioactive flying goats that breathe fire, and then she gets to take her revenge on Scott by shooting fire at him. Lightning manages to get on the blimp, and then retrieves back the money case from Heather. The blimp then loses control and falls for a crash landing while Lightning hops out with the case, and then gives it back to Chris. The blimp now crashes on the ocean and sinks. In the elimination ceremony, Jo is eliminated. The final four are now Scott, Zoey, Lightning and Cameron.
11 | "TBA" | March 15, 2012 | 411 |
Scott gets eliminated. The final 3 is Lightning, Cameron and Zoey. Harold makes a cameo in this episode.
12 | "The Enchanted Franken-Forest[25]" | March 22, 2012 | 412 |
The final three: Lightning, Cameron and Zoey must now race through the "enchanted" forest filled with giant mutated Venus Flytraps that can swallow people and other several mutated animals. The first two people who finish the race through the forest will get a spot in the final two. Cameron, Lightning and Zoey then start the race and throughout the race, Zoey is being mean to Cameron. Also Lightning is swallowed by one of the Venus Flytraps. In the end, Lightning wins the race, followed by Cameron, with Zoey coming last and getting the most shocking elimination ever, thus resulting in the first ever same-gender final two: Cameron vs. Lightning.
13 | "Mr. Smart Vs. Mr. Strong[26]" | March 29, 2012 | 413 |
Lightning and Cameron, the final two, are told to vent all of their feelings in the Confessional at the beginning of the episode. They then both watch video messages on a flat-screen TV from their relatives at home: Cameron's mother and Lightning's father. They then arrive at a massive arena where Chris, Chef, two interns, and the 11 previously-eliminated contestants are watching from the stands. A pile of junk is dropped into the middle of the arena, and the two of them must find a way to use some of the junk as either protection or weapons for the duel that will follow between them. Lightning creates a rather crude set of armor with ankle plates, a chest plate, a pan as his helmet, and a plastic mannequin's leg with nails sticking out of the top. Cameron at first appears to have nothing, but then reveals a massive mechanical suit that he created. The two battle for so long with no clear winner that Chris decides to make it interesting and drops every mutated creature in the island into the arena, only for the creatures to start attacking everyone, including Ezekiel. Cameron keeps trying to save the other contestants from the monsters, while Lightning keeps attacking Cameron only. Eventually, one of Cameron's suit's abilities causes many of the barrels of toxic waste to magnetize to Lightning's body, giving him white hair and causing him to collapse, finally winning the challenge for Cameron, thus crowning him the winner of Total Drama: Revenge of the Island and the recipient of the million dollars. As Chef and the 13 contestants sail away on a boat, Chris attempts to detonate a bomb placed on the underside of the boat, only for the bomb to go off on the Dock directly beneath him, as Chef switched the bomb. The RCMP then descends on the island and arrests Chris for hosting a show in a toxic nuclear waste dump, while Chef and the rest of the cast cheers. |
Total Drama: Revenge of the Island was originally supposed to air in July 2011 on the U.S. and in September 2011 on Canada, but due to the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami, the producers chose to modify the storyline of the season to remove some radioactive references that were considered insensitive to the victims of the disaster. This caused the season's airdate to be delayed until late September 2011, but failure to complete the full season by then caused another season delay for Canada until January 5, 2012.[27][4] Now the season will air three months later in Canada than originally expected, but the new rescheduled airdate for the U.S. is still unknown. Therefore, if the U.S. were to air the season today, the season would be six months late from the original airdate of July 2011. However, France has aired the entire season (dubbed in French) in just 8 days starting on December 21, 2011 to December 29, 2011, becoming the only country in the world to air the season still in 2011 (every other country will air the season in 2012), even though they aired the French spoken version of the season (not with the original voice actors). The Australian air date is also still unknown.
